Load Image from Computer

Hey there,

this is a very basic question about loading images.

I know I could hard code a specific image i want to load by specifying the image directory but is there any way where, I could just load an image where a pop up window comes up and I could just select any image from my computer folder?

Have a look at selectInput:

http://processing.org/reference/selectInput_.html

You will need to include java.io.File for your callback function to work, which you can read more about in the official Java docs. As a simple example:

import java.io.File;
PImage img;
void setup()
{
size( 640, 480 );
selectInput( "Select an image", "imageChosen" );
}
void draw()
{
if ( img != null )
{
image( img, 0, 0 );
}
}
void imageChosen( File f )
{
if( f.exists() )
{
img = loadImage( f.getAbsolutePath() );
}
}

maybe use this

and then PImage myImage;

myImage = loadImage( selection.getAbsolutePath() );

Hi caffeinecranked,

there is a built in file dialog method in Processing, called "selectInput()". Have a look at this:

import java.io.File;

void setup() {
selectInput("Select a file to process:", "printPath");
}

void printPath(File selection) {
println(selection.getAbsolutePath());
}

The selectInput method works with a callback function. this means, that the selected file will be passed to the method which is named as the second argument. In this case, it just prints the absolute path of the file...

You could write a method instead which will load the image from the selected file.
