linux user permissions issue

I'm running Processing on Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit, and have encountered an issue with sketches that attempt to establish network connections. Every time I try to run an example sketch from the oscP5 or netP5 libraries all my running programs close and I get logged out (when using my personal user account).

I tried starting up processing as the superuser and ran some of the oscP5 sketches and they were fine (after I copied the oscP5 library files into /root).

Is there a way for me to run these sketches without having to start processing as the superuser?

I've had the same problem when starting sketches. Switching to the P2D renderer solved the problem, but since I've upgraded Ubuntu it's doing fine with the default renderer (I assume it's Java2D).

i am having none of the above trouble with my system though, works fine. (ubuntu 10.04, 64bit, nvidia 130M, processing 1.2.1)

Both of these suggestions worked.
I was able to run oscP5sendReceive with the P2D renderer before changing System Preferences.
Then changed System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual Effects from "Normal" to "None", and was able to run the same sketch with the Java2D Renderer no problem.
