A little news for fellow travelers, by way of replying to myself: Now I understand how to load the rwmidi and jmetude libraries in the PDE, and I've written successful sketches for jmetude. Alas, the MIDI libraries still don't make it with Linux, at least not on my Ubuntu 10.04 boxes (32-bit). I think proMIDI simply needs recompiled with a fix for the PApplet prolbem but I haven't got that far yet.

Audio/MIDI stuff that works here includes Minim 2.1, Beads, jm-Etude, SoundCipher, Ess, and Csoundo. I've also been successful with the GSVideo and JMyron libraries. By "working" and "successful" I mean that the examples perform correctly with no or very little intervention at the code level.

I've also got Tactu5 producing output, but I' haven't yet figured how to connect it to something that makes sound.

So, there's some pretty cool audio stuff for Processing that works with Linux. Nice.

And yet once more: I have proMIDI 2 working here now. I must have screwed up the previous installations, I did nothing special for this working installation. Oh well. Now to get it tied to Tactu5.
