I installed Processing 2.0a4 on Mac OSX Snow Leopard. Once the ZIP file decompressed automatically after the download, I do get the Processing.app, which works in general. However, the folder structure which should contain the libraries in Documents/Processing/libraries is there but empty.

A search for processing.serial.* returns no results, the files are not on my Mac.

Running a sketch with serial communication methods creates an error: UnsatisfiedLinkError: no rxtxSerial in java.library.path

How can I get the libraries installed ?? The site says nothing about this, as far as I can see....

With a Library like the Serial one, which is one of the Core libraries, they actually exist inside the Application.. so:

/Applications/Processing/Contents/Resources/Java/modes/java/libraries ...

You have to CTRL-Click on the app and select 'Show Package Contents' to show this path...

You still will have to use the import statement to include the library though, even if it is a core one...

For contributed libraries, yes, they have to exist under Documents/Processing/Libraries (though it can be a different root folder if you change that in the preferences...) ... not sure if 2.0a4 creates that directory for you automatically or not, as I already had it created from previous versions...

Thanks, Jesse. I found the Wiki page about the problems with common issues with the serial Java library, but none of the files mentioned there as potential "competitors" for the library included in Processing are on my machine, and anyway the error message I get is slightly different:

java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no rxtxSerial in java.library.path thrown while loading gnu.io.RXTXCommDriver

Any idea how to fix this?
