Hello everyone,
I am writing a lot of libraries in eclipse using the ANT library template (and how to procedures) recommended on the processing website. I am running Eclipse on a PC with Java JDK 1.6.0_19. The work flow is fantastic, however I have discovered something of a problem as it appears all the libraries I am creating can only run on Processing operating on a Windows based machine -- ie do not work in Processing on MAC OS. The problem is further compounded, when I export applets (from Processing) to HTML, as the HTML applets do not open through mozilla firefox on MAC! Any thoughts or suggestions?

any indicator why the library would not work? e.g. any error messages?

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for replying. So the error when attempting to launch one of my libraries on Processing running on a MAC is:

UnsupportedClassVersionError: A library is using code complied with an unsupported version of Java.

It seem perhaps self-explanatory, except that the libraries work on any PC machine whether or not they have the JDK 1.6.0 that I use to build the libraries. The issue with the exported HTML applets online doesn't actually return an error, just that nothing loads. I have tested exported applets which do not use any of my custom libraries and they of course, open fine on any browser on a MAC. Again the strange thing is that these exported HTML applets work fine on a PC.

are you working with the latest version of the template (version 0.3.2)? The UnsupportedClassVersionError has been an issue with previous versions. in case you are using an earlier version, add target="1.5" to the javac tag in your build.xml file (line 119) or upgrade to the latest version.

target="1.5" will force the javac compiler to compile with java version 1.5 instead of (in your case) the default version 1.6. mac osx pre 10.6 comes installed with a java version lower than 1.6, hence the error.
