kinect light not burning

I got a 2nd hand kinect.
It's attached to my windows xp machine with a adapter.
The green ligth on the adapter is burning, the light on the kinect is not.
Does this mean it's broken, or can it also be a driver problem?
I did all the steps for installing simpleOpenNi, however the first time without the kinect plugged in.
I did know repair from all installers with the kinect plugged in, however this does not help.
hope someone knows a solution :(
