please help! I am new to processing. After downloading and adding different modes I am continuously facing one problem. that is my JAVA mode is not responding, it is not showing any error that mean I am uable to see my display wisdow in java mode. wherever I hit run tab nothing happens to processing. android and javascript mode are working perfectly. Uable to find any error.

Did it work before you added the extra modes?

I suggest you install Processing from scratch without the additional modes and test JAVA mode. If it works then add another node and try again, repeat for each mode. It might help narrow down the problem.

No it was not working even before installing other modes. I have removed all files relating to processing and reinstall new version but still its not working from the beginning. I have allowed in vista firewall following program( java platform SE binary.) still its not responding. my sytem is 32 bit with window VISTA. since i have linux on the same system I tried and its working on linux system. but I want to work in windows. any suggestion.

I do not have any problem in installing android and other mode I have already learnt hows to install them but JAVA MODE is not responding on clicking the RUN button. I am unable to diagonose the problem. please help.

I would like to add one more thing that on clicking the properties of processing.exe file the compatibility box was checked with window XP service pack 2 there were other option like window 98 ,NT ,ME etc but no option for VISTA and i donot know what does this all mean :(

Processing itself is an IDE which transforms the code you type into Java;

then calls the JDK compiler to get you a .jar file.

You need to make sure that Java SE (JDK) is correctly installed in your system.

I advise you to get the newest 32-bit Java Plataform (JDK) 7u25. Get file -> "jdk-7u25-windows-i586.exe"

Also, reinstall Processing again just to make sure.

You can also rename the bundled subfolder /java to something else

to force Processing to use the installed Java in your OS rather than its old version!

P.S.: Forget about renaming the subfolder /java as I said. At least for the Windows version.

You can do that in Linux for sure! Maybe in MacOS too.

Processing developers are forcing Windows users to use its decrepit bundled Java.

The way around it is by creating a folder junction (hard link) pointing to the Java installed in the OS.

Replacing the subfolder /java.

I use Link Shell Extension to create the junction:

But it's a very advanced technique. Although very similar to what's done in UNIXes OSes!

yes you are right renaming is not possible in window.

I have reinstalled jdk latest version and then installed processing again but on hiiting run button nothing happen. I have deleted preference file still nothing happen.

Now Iam interested to know the root cause because it perfectly working on linux system. please help. my only problem is that I am uable to see my display window after hitting RUN tab in java mode and below the command screen I dont see any error message.

Just to assess the situation better, install previous stable -> Processing 1.5.1 w/o bundled Java.

If it works there, the problem lies w/ the way Processing 2 deals w/ your graphics system perhaps!

Yes the display window in processing 1.5 w/o java is working. Iam happy atleast I have seen this working on my window vista. I donot know if any simple solution exist for this problem. Therefore I will change the system setting to previous condition where android and other modes were working and use linux to work with java mode.

Its really stressfull that new learner waste much of their time and passion only in installation. :(
