Have you seen the example in processing with animated gifs?
You could create your animated gif then import it into your sketch and change the dimensions in the sketch. Im not too sure about the quality though. Programming the animation would deffo be your best bet if your going for quality.

You´re friend was talking about <canvas> (roughly: imagine some kind of PApplet inside a xhtml document) but I don´t think there is any way of exporting anything from there into processing. Normally it´s the opposite: you´d use processing to 'export' a nice processingjs sketch into a <canvas>. <Canvas> use its own grammar (quite easy, I ´d say) but I think it isn´t what you are looking for.

Basically, the answer is no.
Indeed, Flash designer is probably a good tool to make such animation, but Processing is a low level programming environment, and isn't designed to handle such animations. Perhaps a library could ease such task, but I am not aware of such. Although Flash is now open, so I would be surprised if there is no Java Flash player.
