Is it possible to host your applet using the dropbox "public" folder?

Hello,

I made a simple game using Processing and would like to share the applet with friends so they can play it on a browser (instead of downloading a .rar file with the application).

I tried putting the applet folder inside the dropbox "public" folder and copying the url to the "index.html" file, but it did not work (the page just showed the text that would go below the applet)

I'm a noob to hosting stuff on the web. Can anybody help? :/

It should work when you use JavaScript mode.

Can you post link to your game on dropbox?

So a friend of mine changed the "https" from the url to "http" and apparently this solved the problem. But now you receive a secutiry warning...

This was the original URL (not working):

Security warnings is something normal (that's Java Applet thing). It happens with all sketches for example run from openprocessing.org.

You may try this http://wiki.processing.org/w/Sign_an_Applet and try to sign your game to make security warning disapppear. However I never tried signing applets myself, wouldn't give you 100% guarantee :)

Your game is very nice, and it's pretty simple. And you should be able to easily port it to JavaScript mode. When you export your game as Java Applet, you basically only make it playable by 1% of the audience. (Yeah.. applets are huge turn down).

You only use one library minim - so if you translate that code to javascript implementation of minim, then it will be way esier to distribute the game on the web.

As to why your game didn't run with HTTPS

it seems that if you open Chrome Developer Tools (JavaScript Console) Ctrl+Shift+J and then you go to Resources tab and reload the page, then you will see the error message:

When you run your page using HTTP S url, then your index.html is loaded via HTTP S, but inside of index.html, there's a reference to HTT P://.....deployJava.js (which is missing S). From the standpoint of your browser, it is a security breach: as index.html from safe (HTTPS) location is trying to load applet from location which is less safe HTTP.

For you it worked to use HTTP:// link for index.html, because then there's no security issue of "secure" index.html calling "insecure" deployJava.js. They are at the same level and this is why it works.

If you still want your sketch to load, you may want to edit index.html and change link

src="http://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js"

into

src="https://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js"

Ps. BTW, Was it a some kind of game jam work?

If you are using Processing V2 in Java Mode AND the sketch only uses the default JAVA2D renderer (not P2D, P3D or OPENGL) then you can use the Applet Maker tool which can be installed in the PDE. More information on this tool can be found here. The Applet can then be posted on OpenProccessing.

ps. i think ZOHO's bug, as I ran into similar problem while ago. I just left the links half-highlighted.
