Import .tif files.

Hello all.

I am attempting to write a data visualization tool for my thesis, and .tif is one of the file formats I need to load up into Processing. I cannot avoid this since the tools that generate data only output into .tif the image data. Is there anyway this is possible? I need to somehow, display the images inside Processing.

See the Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) API library.

Yes, we have to use "undocumented" loadImageIO because regular loadImage will try to load Tiff its way (reimport Tiff files created with Processing) and will fail.
I added jai_imageio.jar file from JAI-ImageIO-1.1 to a 'code' folder in the sketch's folder (dropping it on the PDE window should do the same). Then I run the sketch, and bam! it works... The magic of Java...

I can't get your solution to work for importing .tif files. I am on windows so my path is G:\foo\bar instead of G:/foo/bar and the error that comes up is "unexpected char: '\'". Do you have any idea of how to fix this?

Paths like G:/Foo/Bar work on Windows too, and this avoids issues like the one you experience...

Any luck getting this work?

I'm not sure where to find the Java files necessary. I looked here:

Well, you found the Stackoverflow thread which points to the location of the binaries, so what is your problem exactly?
I also found the http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/install-jai-imageio-1-0-01-139659.html page, a bit outdated (wrong version number) but it might guide you about what file to get.
There is also the http://java.net/projects/jai page, but it is confusing, as there is no download page (not an obvious one, at least). Java.net site is a mess since Oracle bought Sun...
