Hi Forum,

How could I make processing do something when any key has been pressed for longer than 3 seconds?

Here's a basic framework that will work. The task is complicated by the key-repeat, which continually generates keyPressed events. Otherwise, we could do it more simply.

int startKey = 0;
int lastKey = 0;
int lastKeyCode = 0;
void setup()
{
size(200,200);
}
void draw()
{
if (keyPressed) {
if (key == lastKey && keyCode == lastKeyCode) {
if (startKey > 0 && millis() - startKey > 3000) {
println("Do something");
startKey = 0; // clear the timer so we don't have repeats
}
}
else {
startKey = millis(); // a new key is being held down, start timing it
}
lastKey = key;
lastKeyCode = keyCode;
}
else {
startKey = 0; // no key is being held, clear the timer
}
}
