Not really. In some cases a switch can be more readable than its if/else counterpart. I tend to avoid switches since they require maintenance as your code grows.

Switch statements are slightly faster than if else but for most situations it won't make a difference.

switch makes a cleaner code, but as hellochar said if then else makes scalability easier, so my vote goes to if then else

Well first of all,

• with switch you evaluate just one variable against different constants or values.

• With if else you can evaluate different variables.

Therefore switch is cleaner when you have only one var such as state or key. So I vote for switch when you can use it.

Switch has another use too if you ignore any flow-control in the switch cases - it makes sense if you want a "userlevel" based set of instructions. (Dont ask me why you want that though...) =)
