Full disclosure:  I do not have an software eng/CS degree nor would I classify myself as an outright master of Processing. Therefore, my statement isn't as reliable as a someone who both does not have a degree and is *already* a master of Processing.

Stop planning and start doing.

Learning programming at university is not "necessary": self-learning is fine. Even after following university courses, I am self-learning every day: it is a job where you need to improve your knowledge in an almost daily basis.
Now, university courses would allow you to acquire, more quickly and in a more thorough and directed way (as opposed as getting information from books or Internet in a semi-random way) the base techniques and knowledge needed to make great programs: algorithms, OOP methodology, etc.
If you are passionate about programming, don't hesitate to follow courses and make it your job. You can still work on your personal projects, but at a professional level.

since you are very very young I would recommend a thorough carreer planning (carreer not in terms of money or earning but what you want with your life, how you want to express yourself)

Why not get a coach for 1 or 2 sessions?

I would recommend university, you get a thorough training (of course you need to learn life long, we all do), but you got a good basis in terms of maths, geometry, trigonometry, databases...

university is better than self learning and you get some degrees or PhD to show
