How to pause

I tried to made a game, when players are lost, the movements on the background should be paused, but I dont know how to do that, could anyone please tell me???
I would very appreciate any advice that will achieve this result!!!

That is a difficult question to answer in general as it depends how how you wrote your code (you should post it). The general idea is to have a conditional switch on the function that moves everything:

if (notPaused) moveThings();
