How to make a simple visual indicator bar with keyboard input?

This is my first time using Processing and I tried to figure out what i want to create using the tutorials however it got stuck. I don't even get the basics running of what I want to do, while I think it is rather simple.

What do I want to program:

A simple bar that fills and empties by keyboard input.
To visualize:

[___________________________]

[XXXXXXXXXX_________________] by pressing e.g. "M" it fills and by pressing "N" it empties

[XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX________]

[XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX]

Can anybody help me?
