how to handle a very large image and zoom without losing quality

Hi All,

I have a very large png map 9698 × 5417. I need to make it run and also let me zoom into it.

What should I do? divide the map in many sections and then call the section, is there any library for Processing 2.0 for this purpose?

I know unfolding is perfect for this but I'm working with the last Processing version

Well 9698 x 5417 is 52,534,066 pixels. (About 52 Million pixels).

If u use 4 bytes to store each pixel, then you get 4 bytes x 52,534,066 pixels = 210,136,264 bytes

which is humble 210 Megabytes in memory. So if you use laptop/desktop to view this image this shouldn't be a big problem.

So the simpliest solution would be to:

loadImage() the whole image
create 3-5 "smaller" versions of the image ( using PImage.resize() which you can use for "zoomed out" version)
then whenever user zooms into some area, just call

to retrieve the necessary zoomed area.
