how to get data from a remote site

hi
i have a total noob question here, regarding how to access data remotely.
what i'm trying to do is use data from a site on the internet, such as text on that site or images on that site as an input for data in a processing app. how do i access data from the internet through processing?
any help on this topic is greatly appreciated :)

depends what data you want.

loadStrings() and loadBytes() can both take a URL and will return you a bunch of strings or a bunch of bytes that you can sift through.

xmlElement *might* do the same with XML, or proXML / proHTML for parsing xml / html. see the libraries page ( http://processing.org/reference/libraries/)

loadImage() also accepts URLs.

thanks that's exactly what i needed to know :)
it will take quite a bit of sifting through all that text data through to find what one is looking for. Is there a command one can use to search a webpage in processing?

Not specifically. Simplest cases can be handled with indexOf, simple cases can use regular expressions, complex cases would use something like JSoup or similar. There is also proHTML library for Processing.
