How to create countdown timer

Hi,

I'm trying to create a visible timer that countdowns from 10 sec to 0 sec....when time is up I want the "game over" screen to appear. How would I start?

think about layers:
this works =

PImage img1;
void setup()
{
size (400, 400);
img1 = loadImage("http://media.meltybuzz.fr/article-1227133-ajust_930/justin-bieber-celibataire.jpg");
textSize(35);
}

void draw()
{

image(img1, 0, 0, width, height);
text("gameover", width/2, height/2);
}

but this wouldn't:

void draw()
{
text("gameover", width/2, height/2);
image(img1, 0, 0, width, height);

}
