How do I clone a source repository on BitBucket to get the most recent source for Toxiclibs

Hi --

I'm working with Toxiclibs quite a bit right now and while going the the source code on BitBucket I found some classes had methods that my (fresh) copy of Toxiclbs dont have that I want. I read on the Toxiclibs site that I can clone the source repository from BittBucket to get the most cutting edge version, but I have no idea how to do it. I searched around on google and the bitbucket site but could not fined a tutorial on how to do it, could some one point me in the right direction please.

The easiest way is to just use the get source link offering to download it (a snapshot, I presume) in various archive formats.
Otherwise, there is a Clone this repository section offering a command line showing how to do it, but it supposes you know what hg is...
It is one of the three major DVCS (distributed version control systems), the other two being Git and Bazaar.
There is a tutorial at http://hginit.com/ and of course the official site at http://mercurial.selenic.com/
This can be useful if you plan to regularly get the updates of the library to integrate them to your fork, or to avoid downloading the whole repository each time you want an update.

Hi, Thanks for the response. So once I've downloaded the source can I use that directly in my library folder or do I need to compile it or something?

I tried just putting the downloaded source in a new Toxiclibs folder (and moving the old one) and I get this error:

The package "toxi.processing" does not exist.

But I see its installed, all the other toxilibs load and I've even tried to add the files to the sketch directly. Always the same error.

Uh, no, Java is a compiled language, unlike JavaScript for example. So you have to generate .class files out of these .java ones, and package them in a jar.
You can compile with Eclipse (I see project files in the root folder) or with Ant. There is a folder of Ant scripts, perhaps all you have to do is go to this folder and run ant -f build_all.xml to get a nice zipped package of all the libraries.
Of course, you need to download Ant and put it in your path (or refer to its install package in the command line).

Great. Thanks so much for your ongoing help, I suspected I needed to compile.

I downloaded Ant, compiled, and found the toxiclibs-complete-0021 zip file. I unzipped that, placed the resulting folder in my library folder and restarted processing. However, when I went to run some of my toxi-based code I got this error:

They type toxi.geom.ReadonlyVec4D canot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files

I'm not using any Vec4D objects and nothing I'm using based on the javdocs seems to be returning a Vec4D.

I'm not sure what that error means.

I hope toxmeister will step in and answer...

I haven't tried the steps I described (it is standard Java stuff), so I can't investigate (although I can check out the sources, they are of interest anyway).

The library uses its own classes internally, of course, so some of the classes you use rely on some other parts of the library, and you can get an error on Vec4D even if you don't use them directly.
Ensure you have unzipped all the built jars, ensure you don't have another copy of Toxiclibs in your libraries folder.
If this fail, it might mean there is a bug in the build scripts... It is easy to forget some files in such process.

I went though and re-added all my Libs in clumps to see if there was not another copy of Toxilibs installed in a subfolder or something and got a random assortment of the Toxi tutorials working.

However, when I tried my own code I got that error on this line:

gfx.line(this.a, this.b);

But then I switched it to:

gfx.line(new Line2D(this.a, this.b));

and all was well in the world.

Thanks for your help getting the newest version of the Lib in my hands!

Okay, new problem:

I know I I got the new version of Lib complied and installed because I got that Vec4D error, and to my knowlage the Vec4D class was not in the release I had previously (020 I think).

But not some of the new classes and methods that should be in 021 are not working:

For example the Convex Polygon Clipper example fails to find the class ConvexPolygonClipper and the offSetShape() method for Polygon2D class (new in 021) is also not working.

Any thoughts?

When using the cutting edge, you can cut problems, but also cut yourself...
Only Toxmeister can answer, but I am guessing he pushes incomplete versions to his repository. Which is likely, given there can be several commits per day... I can do that too, eg. to freeze code at some state, before experimenting breaking changes, if I want to go back (although with DVCS, we can also just make a local branch for such experiments, but I drift).

If you look for a stable version, look at the tags: the latest one is named dist20110103: that's promising, with the name "dist" in it, and not too old, so perhaps you can find your happiness here.

Thanks so much for your help,

The things is I see the methods I want to use in the java files that I downloaded from BitBucket. So I don't understand why they don't work.

Anyhow, this has been a learning experiences, and I think I'll just go back to copying the methods form the code and using them as functions and extended classes.
