How can I load and create a random number of different images?

Hi,

I'm a beginner so please excuse the simple question. I didn't found any answer via google or the forum search. Maybe I'm searching the wrong tags. :/

My Question:
How can I load and create a random number of different images? With an array obviously. But where/how do i put the "random" or "bias" in the process.

The names of the files are "kopf" + number + ".png".

THX 4 any help!

You put the randomness in the 'number' used to build the image name.

Yeah. That would create ONE image but not a random count of pictures. Like ten pictures on the screen, then two, then eight ...

No, that would load one image out of n, the number of images in your data folder.
You can draw a random number, the number of images to display at a given time, then load the images, to put in an ArrayList, since we don't know in advance the total number of occurrences.

Random pseudo-code:

ArrayList<PImage> images = new ArrayList<PImage>();
void loadNewImages()
{
int imageNb = random(3, 11); // Adjust the values
images.clear();
for (int i = 0; i < imageNb; i++)
{
PImage image = loadImage("kopf" + nf(i, 3) + ".png");
images.add(image);
}
}

I can't make this code work. And I don't even know how to show those loaded images on the screen. Plz help!

I didn't said this code works... Well, it can, but it is untested.
And if you don't know how to put images on screen, you should start by the tutorials and look at some of the examples coming with Processing.
At long least, show the code you have put around mine...

I know the tutorials. They can tell me how to load single images, piece by piece and display them with image (name, x, y). Or how I could use a loop or an array to generate multiple images.

I understand the basics, but now I am at a point where I need help, because there's no tutorial or similar code I could study to understand its mechanism.

I used your code just as u posted it. But obviously it is just loading the images, but it still needs to display them on the screen and I tried but finally don't know how. :)

Ah, OK. Somewhere in your code, put:
PImage image = images.get(imageIndex); // imageIndex is a number between 0 included and images.size() excluded
image(image, posX, posY); // posX and posY are computed however you want
