How are you supposed to output video (.mov) files?

First Question - How are you supposed to output video (.mov) files?

From the documentation the method seems to have varied with releases and it appears that you should write frame files then run the moviemaker tool. Just running the moviemaker tool with no files does nothing at all. Is this a bug?
Documentation surprisingly lacking in this area.

Actually, I don't understand your question. Why do you expect to get a movie when you run the MovieMaker tool with no files?

I haven't seen anything on what the MovieMaker tool does or looks like. I would assume the MovieMaker tool would do something, at least start a window or give an error message even if there was no input. If nothing happens it seemed a bit arduous to write a sketch to make a series of frames just to test it.

I have now run the example in the reference for saveFrame which produces .tiff frames just fine, but the MovieMaker tool just does nothing. I think a bug.

Anybody used it in 2.0b6 or other release?

In local 1.5 documentation, there is MovieMaker reference, you can download this, but probably won't be the same for 2.x...

Alternatively you can call saveFrame() at the end of draw. Latter join the saved farmes as a .mov. QuickTime 7 does this for example.

Ah, OK.
Well, I have 2.0b6 on Windows 7 64-bit, with Java 64-bit as well, and if I go to Tools > Movie Maker, I see a dialog box with lot of options.
Maybe you have a problem with your version.

I reported a bug and MovieMaker seems to be fixed in 2.0 beta 7 , although it appears to be buggy - I can only get PNG to work not tiff. At least I have managed to make a video processing program - although running moviemaker is a bit of a palaver!
