HeMesh lattice modifier help

My assumption is that the lattice modifier uses the edges of the mesh to make the lattice. I'm wondering if there's a way to give the modifier a list of lines(all connected) and derive a lattice structure from them. My aim is to build a structure in wire-frame, make a lattice, smooth it and export it as an STL file. Any ideas?

Actually, yes and no.

No, HEM_Lattice uses the connectivity information inherent to the halfedge mesh and the properties of a manifold surface. A list of lines does not necessarily define a manifold surface. (HEM_Lattice creates an inset in each face, creates an offset copy of the mesh, removes all inset faces and connects the edges left dangling with new faces. Clearly this only works on a mesh or surface.)

But yes, HEC_FromFrame() creates meshes from networks of lines (embedded in a WB_Frame object). This is supported in the latest revision of hemesh (hemesh2010.googlecode.com). So if you want it right now, you'll have to checkout the latest revision. Otherwise, wait a few days for the 1.4.9 release...

I understand that "checkout" means to get the latest revision of the code, I don't know how that works. Can someone please point me to an explanation.

Checkout isn't enough. You need to compile the library too. So unless you're working in Eclipse don't bother to do this. A few days patience and all goodies will be yours...
