Help! How to view output from a serial

I need to create a simply program to display the output from my arduino( like "RPM: number", number is updated every arduino output ) , and a button that create and start (or stop) to record data on a file. But I do not know where to start, i don't really need to study processing, I need it just for this occasion. Can you recommend a code that is right for me to change?

Ok, so, i've installed arduino libraries on processing. I founded how to create an output. How to save to a file. But i can't find a guide that explain me how to read Data from serial port and not only signal from a Pin. Someone can me tell me the istruction to do that? ty

I just did something like this this weekend. If you've got the Arduino printing to the serial monitor as you need, here's what I did on the Processing side:

Serial myPort; //Create object from Serial class
int portIndex = 0; //set this to the port connected to Arduino
String Message;
short LF = 10;
PrintWriter output;
void setup() {
size(200, 200);
myPort = new Serial(this, Serial.list()[portIndex], 9600); //On my Mac, port is first in the list
output = createWriter("filename.txt");
}
void draw() {
if ( myPort.available() > 0) //If data is available,
{
Message = myPort.readStringUntil(LF); //read string until linefeed
print(Message);
output.println(Message);
}
}
void keyPressed() {
output.flush(); //Writes the remaining data to the file
output.close(); //Finishes the file
exit(); //Stops the program
}

Worked for me but had one problem. The file saved with extra lines and "null" values that were not visible in the Arduino serial monitor. I haven't figured out why yet. I was able to edit them out and still use it for what I needed.
