When you refer to a library, particularly one not listed in the Libraries page, you should provide links to them, so that we can at least understand what you are talking about.
Being curious, I googled for the jar file you mention, and found Modest Maps. But that's about ActionScript (Flash) or Python. Searching a bit more, I found an article on Modest Maps vs Processing.
That said, I can't answer your question, but perhaps somebody passionate about the topic will give a shot.

my google for modestmaps turned up a skeleton google code page. there was code in the svn repository and another page with some scant details. looks like a university project and not that well known.

but i think your problem comes down to mapping a 2d picture to a 3d sphere. i think there's an example that'll cover this, or something in the previous forum.
