GSoC 2011: Tool Chest

Hi,

I am Nufail, a Computer Science undergraduate from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. Recently I came to know about participation of Processing in gsoc 2011. Having used Processing previously I was amazed at the power and simplicity of Processing and liked it very much. So I would really love to contribute to Processing through GSoC.
In the ideas list, I found the Tool Chest idea really interesting. I would like to know more details about it. As I understand it, the purpose is to build some tools for Processing, out of the potential Tool ideas in the Processing Wiki. I would like to know whether there are any specific set of tools to be implemented. Also I would like to know whether there's any specific things to consider when submitting proposals for Processing projects. And any other details regarding this project would be much appreciated.
Also would like to know whether this forum is the preferred method of communication regarding GSoC projects.

Hi Nufail,

I don't really know how things work in relation to Processing and GsoC. Probably Casey and Ben are coordinating this.

Anyways, the deadline for GsoC is very soon, tomorrow April 8 19:00 UTC if I'm not mistaken. Good luck if you go for it!

Hi Nufail,

I'm coordinating GSOC this year. We are interested in students developing tools and libraries for Processing. There are a number of suggestions on the project lists wiki ( http://code.google.com/p/processing/wiki/ProjectList), but we don't have a specific list of tools we "require". I think if you spend some time browsing the forum and playing with the Processing examples, you'll get a sense of what might be most useful to the community that you would be excited to build.

Hi Dan,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I couldn't apply for GSoC last year. You are doing a very good job this year. It is much more organized and we have good information regarding projects unlike last year. So I am hoping to apply this year. I will come up with a proposal regarding this project very soon.
