GSMovie setEventHandlerObject() examples?

I've been playing around a little bit with GSVideo and the GSMovie object to play back .mp4 and .mov files. It's fantastic! I noticed in the reference that there is a setEventHandlerObject() . I'm curious how this works, but didn't see any examples packaged with the library as to what purpose it could serve.

If it does anything that I think the name implies it would be great to use it for setting events like MovieLoaded, MovieDisplayed, MovieClicked, these sorts of things.

Anyone know or seen particular uses of this?

hmmm, upon further investigation in the source — it seems that this method is mainly used for the public method movieEvent()

are the ways to make your own hooks?

The idea of setEventHandlerObject() is to allow one to put the movieEvent(GSMovie) handler method in a class different from the main PApplet of the sketch. You could do a MoviePlayer class that encapsulates movie playback:

movie = new GSMovie(parent, filename);
movie.setEventHandlerObject(this);

void movieEvent(GSMovie m) {
m.read();

Looks fine. However, since you are not using the setEventHandlerObject() method, the frame reading still takes place in the main thread. But maybe this is what you want.

Thanks for taking a look. I still don't quite understand the benefit of having movieEvent(GSMovie movie) within the scope of my class vs. the sketch.

When does this event get triggered exactly in the workflow of GSMovie object? Is there something more to the Event then just movie.read() ?

Yes... I don't think that having the movieEvent within the class is that useful in fact.

I put it in to make the code a little bit more general but.. anyways. All you usually do in the event handler is calling the movie read(), and perhaps setting some flag variables.
