Thanks to Rolf van Gelder for putting a working example of getting GPS coordinates onto the Android Wiki.

I had been working on this for a week, but was hitting my head against several walls...

(just thought I'd post this here, as I had missed it for who knows how long, and others might ave as well)...

Hi Rolf,

I've been playing with this a bit, and am noticing that it is never updating the location... thought the code seems like it should.

I noticed that in the onResume() function you were calling NETWORK_PROVIDER... you probably know this , but for others, if you change that to GPS_PROVIDER, as well as add

import android.location.GpsStatus.Listener;

to your imports, it will update according to gps location, constantly.

Hi there i keep trying to run this code on my phone but it keeps crashing and ideas :)

HI there i have managed to narrow the error to this line

locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 0, 0, locationListener);

I have also tried the other code posted here and the same thing again except for this line.

locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 0, 0, locationListener);

when i comment this out the app works however does not show my position.

Am i missing something???

Any ideas why this is messing up the prog.

Do you have your permissions set (ACCESS_COURSE_LOCATION, ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION) ?
