Hallo,

please, do you have anybody any experience with generating geometry in processing and export it > CAD > CAM > CNC

and carve it into the wood? It's just basic linear geometry.

My opinion is: generate .txt data in processing (on the web), rebuild the geometrey in rhinoceros and use some CAM exporter. Probably there is some more direct way. Thanks for your opinion.)

And the second one: is there any way, how to do these steps automatically? Get .txt from server, start rhino, run script, export data for CNC and upload picture to web? Without my attantion?

Hi,

have you tried the dxf library which will export the processing drawing as a dxf? Depending on the complexity of your project you should be able to import it straight into rhino.

Otherwise the technique I have used before, as you mentioned in your question, is to export points as .txt file and import points and rebuild in rhino using rhinoscript or python. My knowledge of these is pretty basic so not sure I'd be much help, but there are plenty of resources re rhino scripting, check out supermanouevre and kokkugia blogs for some tutorials and python.rhino3d.com.

I don't want to highjack this blog with rhino links but in my opinion you will need to go via rhino. Also what CNC machinery will you be using? Router, laser cutter?

Hi Matej,

Yeah, as I wrote in the GCode Library thread, my code works pretty well with a laser cutter (a DIY one hacked onto a DIY CNC machine

Also, the DXF's from Processing have always opened in rhino no problem.

I made the GCode/txt file routine based off of some example GCode files that Mach3D was generating, and some the the GCodes and MCodes are a little obtuse, but let me know if you have any questions on that... There's a short video here

If you are trying to automate the process, I would def. try to go directly to GCode, as automating Rhino is a lot more overhead in System commands, etc. But you should be able to save the txt to a directory that has a listener script pointed at it, then when a new file appears, it would run a batch/cmd to start the CNC machine.
