Full Sunflow functionality in Processing

I've been trying to find a way to get full Sunflow functionality from directly within Processing. The wrapper SunflowAPIAPI gave me a working method to realise this. I wrote a fairly lengthy blogpost about my search which also includes a how-to and code example to get the API working. Thought I'd share it here so it may benefit others interested in this area!

Christopher is a friend of mine, he has done some great work there. Nice to see some more people working on that framework.

Excellent stuff.

I have only tried the java version so far, but its damn brilliant, works straight out of the box (well in Netbeans, since you can call in the libraries from anywhere, and I already had sunflow), can't see myself using the processing ide for these sketches anyway. Your video is also excellent, nice music, best at full-screen (HD did not work for me). Tempted to to port it to ruby-processing...

I installed sunflow but cannot seem to locate this file.

I've put links on my ruby-processing blog, I presume you are a non windows user? You need to be sure and get the 0.073 version of sunflow. I downloaded the latest source I could find as a tar ball. The janino.jar doesn't come with that but is supplied with the binary download, use that janino.jar. The latest janino is incompatible with sunflow but can be made compatible very simply. Just ditch a couple of exception types and update one to the new one that comes in the commons-compiler.jar. Details at the janino site.

Hi Amnon,

I am Daniel. I wrote you a few minutes ago.

I change my processing to the version 1.5 to try to work with sunflow, and it work great but

after the render is done (I have other window where I can see the render) and I watched the result in

the window of the render, after that , the image (the render image) desappears. I want to save in a picture

the final result. How can I do?

Please note there are a couple of similarly-named sunflow routes:
- p5sunflow
- SunflowAPIAPI
- P5SunflowAPIAPI

While in the your mail you linked to the first, the behaviour you describe matches the last.

Assuming you use P5SunflowAPIAPI you can render to a file by adding a filename inside the render function, like so:

sunflow.render(sketchPath + "/SunflowTestRender.png");
