No idea for your specific question, but perhaps you should use .mp3 files instead of .wav files, they can be much smaller...

Yeah, I need to look into that more too - I was assuming that having something uncompressed would be better for performance, but haven't seen any proper recommendations on the Android Dev site... 

This has to be measured, but in general, uncompressing can be quite fast with a decent CPU (and sometime even hardware accelerated!), while reading lot of (uncompressed) data on a storage device can be much slower...

Good point. Guess I should try it before I assume it's not going to work... 

Yeah, MP3 cuts the size of the data folder by 90%, and they seem to play fine... eventually will have a lot more files, but looks good for now. Thanks!

FYI, just found some threads on StackOverflow etc., saying that the general limit for an APK is 50mb, but certain hardware manufacturers (ie Samsung) cut this to 30mb... and dependent upon your OS version, the Market download size limit could be 25mb...
