Eclipse Content Assist and Format

I have been using Processing for awhile now and finally grown my project to the point that its a hassle to use the Processing IDE. I would like to switch to Eclipse to gain the advantage of Content Assist (Code Completion) and Formatter.

I installed the Processing Plugin for Eclipse and can run my application, but for some reason Content Assist and Formatter don't work with my *.pde files. From looking at other posts, this seems like functionality that should work. Is there some setting required to get this to work? What am I missing?

I'm using the SpringSource Tool Suite version of Eclipse ( http://www.springsource.com/developer/sts). Should that make any difference?

I know nothing about SpringSource, I always used the versions directly from the Eclipse site.
I never used the Processing Plugin either. I believe there are two plugins, no? Not sure which one you use, and what advantages they bring.
I tried a bit to code Processing in Eclipse (without plugin), to see what it looks like, but most of my projects are small and manageable with the PDE. Old habits...
I used just the Java editor, which is powerful and rich. As such, I used .java files, with declaring the class and a main() method. It allows debugging, although core.jar seems stripped of line numbers (I wonder why, it shouldn't bring much gain in space or speed) so it is hard to debug inside Processing itself...
I don't know if we can tell Eclipse to treat .pde files like .java ones (ie. to use the same editor).
