Distance from kinect

Hi,

i want to use the kinect to see how much people are into the room and every person i want to have a distance value from the kinect to the person. How can i do this?

I expect there must be some blob detection?

Do you have a Kinect ?

Have you tried any of the libraries ?

Most of them have pretty easy to understand depth information...

though if you wanted to actually track separate bodies, I would try osceleton,

which also has depth information, but it's a little bit harder to use (it returns a z depth for each joint... you could only ask for one - i.e. the head if you wanted to...)

Yes i have one. I'm discovering right now how to do this. I've seen the depth test, but how do i select the object and calculate the distance of an person or multiple persons? What is the best way to do that?

That's the thing... it runs over a pixel array, so it's not attached to any type of selection tool, a'la opencv, that can discern objects from each other.

You could try to do blob detection, get the coordinates of the blob, write them to an array, then ask for the average distance of those pixels ???

seems laborious and inprecise...

otherwise, i would look at osceleton ...
