Combining Indiviudal Projects

Dear Community,

I'm trying to create a project that controls other projects as a kind of a main-menu. In the best case the solution flexible includes other Projects/Applets/Applications from a folder.

If it's not possible to solve it that way, then maybe with a static solution where you have to code the "import" directly?

Any help would be great! :)

PS: I know that Processing isn't made to support these ideas

What I would do is make each of the of the programs you want to use (except for the menu) into a class. Then copy the classes into the menu program and then set the classes up when they're selected in the menu program.

Thanks for the fast answer :) I've already tried this one, but there are two big disadvantages i want to avoid.

1) If the programs are themselves composed of many classes (.. they are ^^), it's getting messy (in the Processing IDE).

2) And the bigger one: Some functions only work in the main class, e.g. the initiation of a XML-file

XMLElement xml = new XMLElement(this, "test.xml");

Or does anything changed in the meantime?/is there a way to avoid the problems above?

1) The easy way I organize classes is place them inside multiple tabs. Use the right-facing arrow in the top righthand corner of the IDE to do so. This creates a seprate .pde in the project folder, that opens, exports, and compiles alongside the main file.

2) One trick I learned trying to integrate processing into eclipse is when you create a class, you can add the following lines: (This may or may not work) -

In the Class itself, add the commented lines (uncomment then, I just commented to mark them)

class MyClass {
// PApplet parent;
MyClass(// PApplet p) {
// parent = p;
}
void myFunction() {
// parent.processingFunction(); //when processingFunction is a processing function that needs to be run in the "main class"
}
}

In the constructor while creating the instance:

// MyClass m = new MyClass(this);

Step 2 may not work, but this should let the functions marked with "parent." use the PApplet created on the base level. (As if they are running in the default class, like XML needs to)

That's a question coming up quite regularly...
Beside the good answer from andrewgies17 (with the limitations you pointed out, but such init can be done once at the global level), there are libraries to handle such case, like Mother, and perhaps another I forgot.
