Can't run processing on 64bit Xubuntu 12.04 LTS

I've searched through the forums and can't find a way to get processing to work.

I've taken the java folder out of the processing folder so that it can find the java installed on my machine and I get this

It works ok on windows 8 64bit on this same machine although the code greys out randomly without comments.

I'd be very grateful for any pointers as I'd rather work Xubuntu as all my servers are set up.

You need a symlink to the full JDK:

Dear Ben

Many thanks for your quick reply.

I did read that on the supported platforms page unfortunately I don't understand what it means. I have tried a symlink but I'm not sure what I'm symlinking to, and, to be honest, I'm not that hot on symlinks either. Perhaps you could write a sample in the instructions and I could trial and error that.

Actually processing-2.0b6 doesn't need symlinking!
Follow this in a terminal:-

cd processing-2.0b6
bash -x processing

Processing should run OK but be very noisy as bash -x gives out lots of useful information. Run this way the processing should detect the included java runtime (which should be 64 bit if you downloaded the right version).

If you want to symlink do step 1 then.

mv java old_java
ln -sfn /opt/jdk1.6.0_37 java

This moves the runtime out of the way (of course you could delete it instead).
PS: Only processing-1.5.1 and earlier linux version reqd symlink on 64bit linux.
