Because this appears in Processing but not in the viewer, I'm inferring that there is a transparent background behind the shapes which is being rendered as a solid color. There could be other reasons, I don't know much about SVG, but essentially I don't want the black background to appear at all.

Do you know how I might go about fixing this?

Edit: I opened the SVG and removed this rect tag - problem solved!
