I want to play a video in Processing but when I run the code, the window is blank and it just plays the sound from the video. I've used video before in Processing and it worked, so I think there is something wrong with the format of the video file? I edited it in Final Cut Pro X and exported it as a .mov file. I thought maybe the file was too big, and made it smaller (21 mb) but it still didn't work. Any suggestions?

Probably...

I believe .mov is just a container format (like .avi, etc.). Perhaps Final Cut allows to change the codec inside the .mov file. If so, try a few ones.

Note that you don't mention which version of Processing you use, there is a big difference in video handling between 1.5.1 and 2.0.

Do you know of any codecs that work, for sure? I am using the 2.0 version of Processing.

thank you. also do you think the file size could be affecting it as well? our videos are pretty huge.

also we are using processing 2.0

the mov is 278.2 MB with 960x720 dimensions but only 44 seconds long.

Hi,
I know this is a little late for a reply...nonetheless,
I doubt that that size (resolution or required disc space) of the file is an issue as long as you have a relatively decent machine to run the sketch on.
I've been using Processing 2.0b8 to run 1920x1080 video's, about 8 or so of them in a single sketch each about 200MB or greater, and have not encountered the same issue.
I have found AVI with MPEG-4(divX) codec and PCM for the audio codec to have best results for my purposes, I've also tried AVI with H.264 codec and MP3 for the audio codec and have not noticed any problems with HD video playback although MP3 (worked on Linux, it was not as effective on Windows 8). It might also be worth noting that the system I have run the sketches on is a hex core AMD with about 8GB of RAM .
