Can anyone help me by testing my app on their device?

Hi all,

Seeing as I made my app with Android Processing, I figured this was the right forum to post in. (If not, I apologize.)

My app is nearly finished, and runs as expected on my Droid Incredible, but I wanted to be sure that it was compatible with other devices before I put it on the market. It should work on 2.1 and up.

It is a sound toy, and it's supposed to make sounds and visual patterns. When you start it up, you should see a loading screen, and then a menu. Really all I need to know is if the menu (with the mute button and the help button) loads without any problem.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could download and install the .apk, and run it. If it forcecloses or does not load, could you install a logcat (there are many free ones on the market) on your handset and give me the output?

If the app works, you can use it indefinitely, and I hope you like it. I don't want to bog down this post any further with instructions on how the app works, there is a help screen included.

Hey dude, tested on HTC sensation. All works no problems (mute, menu, etc). Not sure if you knew, but app only fills about 2/3 of the screen? Anyway, good luck.

P.S. how did you do the loading screen?

I'm glad it works!

It's supposed to fill the whole screen, as a curved rectangle. Is this what you mean?

My Incredible has a resolution of 480x800, and some googling tells me that your phone has a higher resolution. I set everything in terms of 'width' and 'height', which should be set automatically to your phone's screen size, I have no idea why that is happening.

All the vector images load by default on the first frame so I just show the the loading icon on frame one, and do all the normal setup() things on frame two. And I made different versions of the loading icon in different colors for fun.

The curved rectangle is fine, it jsut doesn't fill the whole screen as expected. Here's a screenshot I took with the ddms android tool...

Try using screenWidth & screenHeight instead of just width & height.

What do you mean all the images load on the first frame - are you displaying the loading image in the setup call or somehow before the setup - if so, how?

Hi Tabbed,

I displayed the loading image on the setup call, and loaded all the other vector assets on frame 1.

Here is an updated version of the .apk using only screenWidth and screenHeight, do you think you could try this on your sensation? I'm curious as to why all the positions were moved up 1/3 of the screen in such a uniform way.

That's bizarre, it works fine for me. Can you try uninstalling the old version first? Maybe you didn't download completely?

Okay, well I'm not really sure what more I can do at this point...do the buttons at least respond when touched? If the app is still functional despite the sizing issue, it's not the end of the world IMO.

Tested your app on htc hero, android 2.2, tastyfroyo rom, cpu overclocked to 691 mhz. The layout is fine, fills the whole screen. But the app is terribly slow and unresponsive on my phone.
I had to wait ages till it got past the splash screen, 2 'app is not responding' alerts, just hit the wait button, when it finally loaded, I tried tinkering with the menu buttons, but no effect, so I tried the back button 2 times and home button once. No response either. My phone froze on me, had to hard reboot, take the battery out.
I'm not saying my phone is a brand new tiger (one of the first android ones), but every other app on my phone runs just fine. Besides, all my experience with processing for android tells me, that even though it is extremely easy to write simple apps with it, it's just slow. And you don't have support for some android-specific tricks.
Your app should work ok on phones with 1 ghz single or double core. Preferably newer ones with the doubles, but my guess is that single 1ghz will be enough firepower.
Finding someome with an overclocked htc desire would be helpful. Try asking at xda.
Older phones won't cope.

I think I'm going to add a disclaimer warning against 1st gen phones when I post it on the market. That's very helpful, thank you!

Installed on my phone: mytouch4g

Everything seemed to work but it would crash when I am actually in the program after a few seconds.

In your size function did you specify opengl(asking this for my own knowledge since I am making a game)?
