Hello there,

Is there a possibility to rotate a camera (not the grid below), around a moving point, without using a lot of if's? ;)
Because at the moment, if you go NORTH and turn right, the camera goes x- and y-, but if you go WEST and turn right, the camera goes x- and y+ ...
Any ideas? And thanks for your help!

In general, you would use vectors to express positions, velocities and directions and matrices (not required in this problem) to express rotations.

You character most likely has a position p=(px,py) and a direction d=(dx,dy) it walks in. You may define the distance the camera should keep from the character with r:

The position of the camera c=(cx, cy) can now be calculated by c = p - d * r.

This is an example of a simplified vector class in c# (untested, typed out of my head):

public class vector2

public vector2(int x, int y) { this.x = x; this.y = y; }

public vector2 operator-() { return new vector2(-x, -y); }

public vector2 operator*(int scalar) { return new vector2(scalar*x, scalar*y); }

public static vector2 operator+(vector2 lhs, vector2 rhs) { return new vector2(lhs.x+rhs.x, lhs.y+rhs.y); }
public static vector2 operator-(vector2 lhs, vector2 rhs) { return new vector2(lhs.x-rhs.x, lhs.y-rhs.y); }
}
// Somehwere in your code:

vector2 player_pos = new vector2(0, 0);

vector2 player_dir = new vector2(1, 0);

int radius = 4;

vector2 camera_pos = player_pos - player_dir * radius;

Or with processing you could use the built-in PVector class.
