Did you try using Android's bluetooth API?

No, I have to say I've not tried yet, I've discovered that bluetooth isn't implemented well in some HTC android devices, and this is causing a stumbling block for me right now. ( http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=8382). I'm not motivated to try and get this working right now when there are OS level issues that could be insurmountable.  Hopefully when I get a bit more familiar with incorporating android APIs into my sketches, I will go back and look at this.
