Hey all,

I am a Processing newbie and was hoping to get some help from someone out there.

I am trying to incorporate blob detection within live video. I will be projecting a piece onto a wall, and recording that using a handicam connected via firewire.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction on how to set this up. I understand the JMyron is for the video input, but I am somewhat lost on how to put all these components together.

Any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

Are you trying to apply blob detection off of the handycam input, which is getting it's input from the live video projection?

I'm not sure if there's a particular reason you're going that route, but it seems overly complicated. Or, perhaps I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to do with that.

You can use CCV ( http://ccv.nuigroup.com/) on the input that is being projected on the wall to do blob detection fairly well. It will generate TUIO points which you can then see in processing, using the TUIO library for processing:

so,

I have created a video to project. this will be running from my mac to the projector. what I would like to do, is when a shadow or figure walks in front of the projector, to have the blob detection detect that motion and overall influence the designs.

let me know if this makes sense. i appreciate your help

Ah, I see.

Yes, CCV would work perfectly for that. Just load up CCV, have it analyze the input of the handycam, and pass the TUIO points that it generates into Processing to use as control data.

You'll have to play with the settings to make sure that CCV does not give false positives based on the actual content of your projected movie. An ideal situation here would be to use IR cameras to feed CCV so that the projection doesn't trigger CCV at all.

If you have access to IR cameras for this project, I would recommend using them. Otherwise you'll have to calibrate and tweak carefully in order to make this as error-free as possible.
