this question has been posted and answered several times :)
but it really depends if you prefer learning from a book or online tutorials.
but no question where your get your lessons from its all about programming yourself.
not only copying what is written in the book but also trying out to change things and do stuff on your own.
set some goals and try to achieve them. start with small steps.

ive learned programming and processing only from online references. its definitely possible.
if you want some books there are several good book recommendations on the books page.
i can recommend the new book by Casey to get started.

I think following the tutorials of the site is already a good mean to start. And, as said, experiment, make changes, give yourself some simple challenges, code!

The easiest way to pick things up quickly is to have in mind a few simple programs that you want to create, and then research similar programs. Online is probably going to provide the most examples, but try to find examples where the code is well laid out with good comments throughout. As you read through them try to make sure you understand exactly what each part of the code does.

i would recommend "getting started with processing" :

instead of "a programming handbook ...."
they are both from casey and ben. the second one is up to date and works with the latest version of processing.
