ARGOS: The Augmented Reality Graphical Operating System is a game design concept that uses Processing and NyARToolkit to create an open-source game engine prototype that utilizes Augmented Reality 3D Object Projection over a real time video feed.
Created by a team of students in the University of Baltimore's Simulation and Digital Entertainment Bachelor's Degree Program, ARGOS is meant to explore the possiblity of utilizing Processing to create Augmented Reality Games. The project began in earnest at the start of the Fall 2011 Semester, and is still ongoing and is set for completion at the end of the Spring 2012 Semester. Currently, we have one simple prototype that demonstrates some of the functionalities of these concepts, such as marker recognition and 3D Object file Projection, as well as how the concept can function as a game prototype that utilizes a simple AR Video Goggle system.
As of January 2012, Team ARGOS Initiated "Phase 2"; a retooling of the concept with emphasis on creating more in depth user interaction with the program by utilizing Gesture-Based functionality and adding in more content to create a more complete game prototype as part of the Senior Final Project requirements for graduation. We have just completed creating the new functionality and we are currently putting the game together with Processing v1.2.

UPDATE: We have just recently started to put together the menu functions and the gesture interactions into an unfinished game prototype. The game hasn't been created just yet, but at least the front end is working correctly! We will update the video blog later tonight with a short video showing off the menus.
UPDATE 2: We are nearly finished with the game prototype! Just need to work out some kinks with the interface and some of the game logic, as well as complete all of the needed assets. It is starting to look like it's finished though! Will post a video to our Google+ profile to show off the gameplay, as well as the improved gesture interface.
UPDATE 3: We finally have a finished, working prototype, complete with sound effects and music! We have also created a "trailer" for the newest game made by ARGOS Phase 2: A.I.M.: Advanced Intelligence Missions. A.I.M. is a new take on the FPS genre using real-time AR and textured 3D models!
