another newguy question...

I've already been cracking the virtual books on this language but I have to pester this forum with just one initial question just to get my bearings...

Is Processing a dialect of these other new (to me) languages?

The syntax seems the same as a half a dozen other languages (JAVA, Ruby, C HTMLn etc.) I've been diving into headfirst after 18 year hiatus.

I'm either too plain thick to notice the answer somewhere in the http://forum.processing.org/ webpages or its so common knowledge now that my age and recently diagnosed asbergers is showing.

The Processing development environment is actually a Java applet. The syntax is also a kind of simplified Java and you can use advanced Java syntax in your code as well.

As said: it is Java with some unneeded complexities hidden, and some added syntax (int(), #C01O81, etc.).
C is of the same family (can be seen as an ancestor of Java). Ruby... not so much. HTML has nothing to do with all this...
