I just wanted to mention that I am teaching a Processing for Android course, and while all the mac users have no problems, every single windows users is having the same issue of being unable to use the emulator. The emulator is spawned, then a second emulator is spawned which then crashes and the whole process fails. We have tried killing the emulators in the virtual device manager and all the other hints I could find here. I did see a note that this might be an issue with Processing 2.0a4 and the SDK v16 and it might be resolved with Processing 2.0a5, but can anyone confirm this? A timeline would be great as well.

I had similar problem
How about starting adb server(emulator) before running processing program.(source code)
After emulator was loaded completely, I excute source code. And That runned well.

- Processing 2.0a3 -

1. Android SDK& AVD Manager > Tools > New > AVD Name: Processing-0202 (must) >Start
(wait until emulator loaded completely (you can see start page)

2. Then Running Source code

and while running the processing still resulted in a second emulator starting up, leaving both emulators on the screen and running sketches a few times Processing seemed to choose one emulator or the other reliably and then you could shut down the unused one. For now it seems to be a work around that was successful on several student computers running windows.

I have tried this method and it worked... once... I have tried all sorts of combinations.

I don't actually care about the emulator; I have an HTC android, but that only worked when the emulator worked (once). Any tips?

... I guess I will wait for future releases

Hi,
i had the same problem with you (and actually still have it when i try to run on the emulator without the workaround i found).

I have both used 2.03 and 20.4 and AVD r16. Upon running Processing the Emulator starts (android 8 on port 5566) and
timeouts... till here its pretty normal. Now when i try re-running after the Emulator fully loads, instead of loading the Process export, it starts a second Emulator (which btw closes after a while) and so on...

What i discovered is that when i run Eclipse on the background, no second Emulator starts and with the second run it loads perfectly. I installed Android tools via Eclipse download!
At the same time in Eclipse Console it shows
[2012-01-23 20:18:35 - DeviceMonitor] Adb connection Error:An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
[2012-01-23 20:18:36 - DeviceMonitor] Connection attempts: 1
[2012-01-23 20:18:38 - DeviceMonitor] Connection attempts: 2
etc... till i shutdown processing.

So i guess its a bug, dunno if Processing is responsible or AVD r 16 (or both)

Anywayz maybe i ll try it on my macbook see what happens there

Also when i tried loading my android_packaged apk to the emulator using command line i had success.

Just locate the exported apk and try

adb -e install replace_with_your_app_name.apk

I immediately shows on the emulator (in contrast to my last post Eclipse wasnt running)
