Accessing an USB device

Hi all,

I have a pulse meter that is a standard HID (Human Interface Device) device. I want to access it from Processing on my Mac computer, maybe later on my Linux box.

I could not find any library that provides any convenient access to USB devices in Processing. Is it possible? Where do i start?

instead of opening a new topic i'll just kick this one again...

I have a rfid card reader that connects to my PC via USB. means that if its connected, and i'm inside any textbox (here, or in office-word or excel, or anywhere actually), i can read the card and it prints out its number. (great for many cool project ideas, only 10 bucks at ebay)

I want to use processing to read that card and do somwthing with that information.

so.... Serial.list() only gets me "COM1", which isn't the usb port of that reader, its a 9-pin serial port, as much as i understand.

so how do I do it?!

Usually, these devices come with a driver. The programs access the API of the driver. So you need the documentation of the latter. And probably need to use JNI or JNA to access it.
