But there are several ways of doing this. We did it the dumb way, translating the pixel's brightness to a sound's pitch. (Horrible to listen to, btw. You can map it to a tuning system though!) There are more sophisticated ways of encoding data into sound, for instance in a fft spectrum, but I'd start with the 'pixel-pitch'.
