Yes, I am running a local server. I tried the default Python server python -m SimpleHTTPServer and I tried a Apache server. Safari is the only browser that works. If you want to try for yourself: It works when you can proceed to the next level, if the game does not detect your screen is fully drawn it does not work.
Appears to work fine for me in Firefox dev edition and Chrome. Both running on Linux without a local server. Probably a good idea to check the 'Network' tab as well in case any resources aren't being loaded: though I'd expect any failed requests to show in the console. Also check whether you've set any filters on console messages: just in case something relevant is being hidden...
