Nice, just tried it out and am happy to report that most of my sketches (standard mode) run with the new version. What does not run is only the usual stuff that I did not really expect to work in a pre-release anyway: incompatible tools, cannot load jars from code folder and some OpenGL library fun.
I like the huge resource of examples even though it makes the download too large. Maybe a modular download which allows to automatically integrating examples later on?
Processing has clearly been my favourite toy for a while! I am really looking forward to playing with 2.0. So, thank you for the continous effort and keep up that excellent work!
I don't think I have seen any bugs yet, first I have to check whether I use outdated libraries and tools. Except maybe that I cannot load jars from the code folder. But I also need to test this a bit more. Will surely file a bug report when I think I found one.
Of course, it works with regular sketches. It fixes the annoying bug of 1.2.1 (like 0191 did) where opening a sketch with the Open button created a new window. It fixes the annoying bug of 0191 where .java files where incorrectly handled (incomplete package declaration...). I see it manages better multiple tabs (most of the names are empty, but are displayed when active, while another is hidden). Perhaps a tooltip over the empty tabs could be useful, too. Ah, I see the Android menu has disappeared, perhaps it detects I haven't a device. Er, a SDK...
That's all from a quick test.
Ooh, I just noticed you implemented something I wanted to do for the PDE (but lacked time to do it): a nice separate window with a tree control to list all the sketches. Much more usable that these pesky menus that disappear if we move the mouse too far. Good idea to have made it sticky, too.
I hope you will also include (there or in a separate window) the user's sketches: it will be more manageable that menus of limited height when user have too much sketches in the same folder.
For those wondering, the window is hidden behind the Open button of the
toolbar. The File menu still shows the menu, already too tall with some
Hm, several of my JAVA2D sketches show a random flicker of the entire sketch window which seems to be worse when run as applet from a browser. It is reproducable per Sketch but I cannot see why some do it and others don't.
Anyone else sees this or is this my old Mac (10.5.8) being against me?
Apparently, there are plans to allow the user to switch 'modes' using a tab in the top right corner of the sketch window. (It might not appear if you only have one mode) When I click on it, I see 'Standard' and 'Android' listed. If I click on Android, the window closes and there is no trace in the Task Manager. For now, I have to use 0192 for Android...
Other than that, there are some fixes, it seems to work fine for normal programs. There are still some random bugs which I haven't been able duplicate, but that's what you get with a Beta version.
Again, if you have bugs, please file them. I can't fix things that are idle comments in reply to an announcement. If you post things here, they're not going to get fixed.
Please don't assume that things will magically fix themselves before the beta. I'm one person, and I can't guess at what's going wrong on the machines of everyone who is using Processing. I also can't fix things if you don't provide better clues (as outlined in the bug submission form) as to how we might track down what's going on.
