How to get VDIG working in Windows 7?

Greetings,

I'm a noob. I've been trying to figure out how to get the video examples working. I downloaded the latest VDIG for windows and still no luck. I've searched through the forum for solutions but haven't been able to find anything.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? Apologies in advance if I have missed something obvious or am asking a question that has been answered a zillion times.

I suppose it is not about Virtual Democratic Infrastructure Group (NZ)?

This vdig.com was apparently the official site of this library (according to VDIG (www.vdig.com/) is no longer available thread).
They mention in this thread a mirror site which work, which mentions winvdig.com which seems down. The mirror site dates back to 2007, so they probably don't know (at the time) Win7 or 64bit Windows... And they already mention issues on Windows.

We are lacking some information. Where did you get VDIG? What video examples did you tried? Those on Processing.org only need QuickTime, not VDIG, to my knowledge.

Thanks for replying! Yeah, I got momentarily confused by the Virtual Democratic Infrastructure Group. LOL I was trying to think how video could be some part of a virtual democratic infrastructure. Sounds like some sort of agent based adaptive system. :P

I managed to find WinVDIG_105 on a site somewhere. I believe that is the latest version out there.

I've tried all of the Video(Capture) examples. I've got an Asus G73J and it has a webcam built into it. I know it works and works well with any other apps I've tried.

Thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate any help you can give me. I'll try some of the other examples and see if I have any luck but what I am really wanting is the ability to use live video capture.

On the topic, has anyone done any mixed or augmented reality apps with Processing?

I uninstalled WinVDIG_105 and then installed WinVDIG_101 and bingo!

i am trying to use color tracking on processing. I have windows 7 ultimate x64 i have the same problem only i got a new camera because my old one wasn't working either :( i tried too, to install 105 and then 101 but nothing happened. i need to finish this project....

Did you make sure to fully uninstall 105? Including shared components? There is a quicktime file in particular that must be deleted before installing 101. Also, have you tried using other applications (e.g. software that might have come with the webcam, or google video, or skype) to test the camera?

edit... DID an uninstall og quicktime and components and winvdig then reinstalled latest qt and the winvdig 101 and some of the processing options dont work (cam.settings(); ) - the included QTCap.exe with the winvdig doesnt work either but if you run or compile as an application it works fine under processing 1.2.1

Ive got winvdig 1.0.1 on my windows 7 machine and i cannot get the capture() to work at all. no device found. i have a logitech camera which i am fairly sure is quicktime compatible.......

funny thing is i also have a ps3camera which works but only using the cleye sdk (older version) with its own processing library which totally doesnt use capture() or quicktime but uses its own stuff. this does actually work under windows 7 but the standard capture() in processing does not

i agree about age - because the vdig software from http://www.eden.net.nz/7/20071008/ is in fact old 08.

I can confirm that using windows xp and latest java,latest quicktime plus the 1.0.1 vdig does work for standard processing video capture (and actually does work using the ps3camera using cleye driver BUT does NOT work using the cleye sdk and its own processing library)
