How is Video on Linux handled

According to this page Processing seems to use quicktime for playing back video
http://wikki.processing.org/w/Video_Issues
but on the same page it says that playback is not supported on Linux for lack of Quicktime playback capabilities.
My question is I saw something about Processing 2 using gstreamer to support playback of video's embedded in a sketch on Linux but this seems to be in contradiction to the above page.
could somebody please clear up this issue for me, with a working example?
That is to say if I have a video in my sketch folder and i want that video to be embedded in a sketch so that i could start, pause the video is there a special libaray i need or is there a built-in way of doing this for Linux using Processing 2?
thanks for your help.
