So just to confirm Processing does use gstreamer without having to install the gsvideo library http://gsvideo.sourceforge.net/
as this is what I understood from the changes wiki?

Video – we've removed the QuickTime for Java video library and are using a modified version of Andres Colubri's GSVideo library instead. On Linux, you'll need to install gstreamer to use the new library.

I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong here?

I'm using Kubuntu 12.04 with Gstreamer installed. i.e. libgstreamer0.10-0 (the core library and all it's dependencies), I'm pretty sure it works cause that's what I use in Movie Player.
Is there a specific package I need to install or perhaps I'm making some silly error?

It might also be worth noting I'm using Kubtunu x64 and my gstreamer installation seems to be here /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer-0.10/

dimiro, I can't thank you enough for your help!
After having read though the list of packages in your previous post I realized that I didn't have libclutter or gnome-sushi installed, after confirming that I had every package installed. I tested the movie examples that come with Processing and success!
Thanks so much for your help video support in Processing (in Kubuntu 12.04 64bit) is working perfectly!

Lol :D yea you're probably right dimiro it's nothing to do with gnome-sushi (although thanks for pointing that package out it'll come in handy :) ) I did notice that when i installed libclutter it also installed a couple of other dependencies. perhaps it was something in there?

Had the same problem.
Found the solution and the right packages to install there: http://code.google.com/p/gstreamer-java/issues/detail?id=87
So all you need to do is:

1. sudo apt-get install libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-dev libgstreamer0.10-dev libglib2.0-dev
